Reino Unido – Agência Reuters – 26/02/2010

CARACAS, Feb 25 (Reuters) – Venezuela said on Thursday it will import semi-finished steel products from Latin America’s top steel maker, Gerdau of Brazil (GGBR4.SA) (GGB.N), to feed the nationalized Sidor mill, struggling with power shortages.

The move is a sign of how hard Venezuelan industry has been hit by an electricity crisis caused by a drought and bad planning. (mais…)

CUBAN President Raúl Castro Ruz and Brazilian President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva led the signing ceremony for legal instruments of cooperation between the two nations.

A MRS Logística anunciou oficialmente seus planos para ampliar a capacidade da sua linha de acesso até o porto de Santos – a chamada cremalheira – no trecho da serra entre São Paulo e o litoral. O sistema, único do mundo utilizado para carga, é composto de uma roda dentada movimentada sobre um trilho especial, o que permite ao trem vencer a altura de 800 metros da Serra do Mar em menos de 10 km. Inicialmente, serão investidos R$ 130 milhões na troca das locomotivas usadas hoje, 12 modelos Hitachi 1976, por sete máquinas suíças Stadler – atualmente a única fornecedora desse tipo de equipamento. Com a troca, prevista para 2012, o ganho de capacidade será de 50%, chegando a 12 milhões de toneladas ao ano. (mais…)

Feb. 25 (Bloomberg) — Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA, Brazil’s second-largest airline, forecast domestic demand will increase as much as 18 percent this year as economic growth accelerates.

The number of passengers transported by the airline in 2010 will rise to as many as 36.5 million and average occupancy rate will be near 70 percent, the company said in a regulatory filing yesterday. (mais…)

BRASILIA–In a first step toward tighter monetary policy, Brazil’s central bank Wednesday raised banking reserve requirements on term deposits to 15% from 13%.

Central Bank President Henrique Meirelles said the changes were necessary to neutralize the impact of excess liquidity brought by reserve requirement reductions made in 2008, amid the onslaught of the global financial crisis. (mais…)
